Details of Windsor Report Reception Process announced

Editor’s note: The Primates’ Standing Committee established the “Reception Reference Group” to facilitate the reception of the Lambeth Commission’s Windsor Report. The ongoing process begun here continues under the heading “Windsor Process.”

The Most Revd Peter Kwong, Primate of Hong Kong, today released the first details of the reception process being adopted by the Reception Reference Group appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury in conjunction with the Primates’ Standing Committee on the 20 October this year, following the publication of the Windsor Report 2004 in London on 18 October.

Full details will be placed on the Anglican Communion web site in the coming week.

“There will be three major threads to the process that the group are adopting,” the Archbishop commented, “First, we shall be using the official channels of the Anglican Communion to undertake consultation with the provinces and churches of the Anglican Communion, its official commissions and networks. This will also include approaches to Anglican mission agencies and ecumenical partners.”

“Secondly, and more importantly, however, we will be working hard to find ways to relate to the grassroots of the membership of the Communion, so that we can discover something of the popular reaction to the Report. The future of the Communion is an important enough matter for us to want to discover the mind of the members as well as the leadership of the Communion on these recommendations.”

“Thirdly, both these channels will be supported by the electronic means of communication afforded through the Anglican Communion web site and ACNS. I hope that all interested parties will consider assisting us with this process of reception.”

Details of the “second thread” identified by the Archbishop will be released through the web site as they become available.

In the meantime, the Primates’ Standing Committee has released the text of questions that it has formulated in response to the Windsor Report for consideration by the provinces of the Anglican Communion. They are reproduced here:

Questions for Consultation with the forty four Churches of the Anglican Communion as formulated by the Primates’ Standing Committee 18 October 2004

• What in the description of the life of the Communion in Sections A & B can you recognise as consistent, or not, with your understanding of the Anglican Communion?
• In which ways do the proposals in Section C & D flow appropriately from the description of the Communions life in Sections A & B?
• What do you think are the ways in which the recommendations and proposals of the Report would impact on the life of the Communion if they were to be implemented?
• How would you evaluate the arguments for an Anglican Covenant set out in paragraph 119 of the Report?
• How far do the elements included in the possible draft for such a covenant in Appendix Two of the Report represent an appropriate development of the existing life of the Anglican Communion?
