Divergent understandings about the nature and the practice of baptism have separated Mennonites and Roman Catholics from the sixteenth century to the present. On Baptism records exchanges on the topic of baptism between fifteen theologians and historians that began in 2001 under the auspices of the Mennonite-Catholic Theological Colloquium.

The dialogue begins with reflections by Frederick C. Bauerschmidt. The participants in this unique dialogue represent their respective traditions with honesty and engage in candid and open exchanges. While argument is not forthcoming, the dialogue represents an important step toward a more profound understanding between the traditions.
