» [siteweb]
- Initiatives of Change
“Initiatives of Change Association (Canada) is the Canadian associate of a global network open to people of all nationalities, cultures, religions and beliefs who work toward change locally and globally, starting with change in their own lives. Formerly known as Moral Re-Armament, this network has been active on every continent for over 60 years. Initiatives of Change is based on the experiences of many people that when one is prepared to listen to the deepest thing in his or her own heart, and to take action on those thoughts that measure up to the standards of honesty, purity, unselfishness and love, he or she becomes an agent of change in the family, community, nation and the world. In Canada, work began in 1932 when Frank Buchman, who initiated the fellowship, travelled across Canada with a group of friends. It has been carried forward since that time by men and women committed to the principles of the fellowship.” [from the website]

- Intercordia
Intercordia was created at the initiative of Jean Vanier, the founder of the l’Arche communities, in order to offer young people a year-long course during their university education as a way of enabling them to acquire a “practice of peace,” essential to both their personal and professional lives. Intercordia’s mission as laid out by the founder and defined in the association’s Charter: “There are so many divisions and conflicts in our world, between people and between different groups of people. Each person or group hides behind a wall of fear or occasionally behind a wall of elitism. Everyone is convinced that they are right, that they are the best. How can these walls be brought down? How can people start reaching out to others? Each one of us belongs to a race, a culture, a religion, to a vision of the world. Shouldn’t it be made plain that we are all members of mankind, too? That we are all human beings? This is Intercordia’s goal: To enable young men and women to get to know other cultures, other religions, other people. To build friendships with them. To build bridges. To bring down the walls. To discover that being different is not a threat but a source of richness. In this way, everyone will be working for peace” [Jean Vanier]
» [Jean Vanier]
- Intercordia Canada
Intercordia Canada is part of an international, non-profit organization dedicated to the creation of accredited university programs designed to train students in the practice of peace, and in the development of practical humanitarian skills. The central element of each Intercordia program is an eight-month immersion experience during which students receive an ethical and theological formation while working in an agency or organization dedicated to the service of people who are marginalized or in distress. Intercordia Canada also seeks to form partnerships with corporations that are willing to sponsor students in their placements and to provide them with possible employment opportunities upon completion of the program.

- KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives
KAIROS is a dynamic church-based social justice movement. KAIROS unites churches and religious organizations in a faithful ecumenical response to the call to “do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8). We deliberate on issues of common concern, advocate for social change and join with people of faith and goodwill in action for social transformation. KAIROS works with its members, partners, and community based network in the following areas: Aboriginal Rights, Canadian Social Development (including Refugees, Health and Anti-poverty), Ecological Justice, Global Economic Justice (including Corporate Issues), International Human Rights.
- KAIROS Regional Structures
KAIROS regional structures support local ecumenical groups as they engage in grassroots activism on a wide range of justice issues. Regional representatives work together with Regional Coordinating Committees to facilitate access to education and action resources, foster networking among local groups, and encourage the creation of new groups. Most regions distribute their own annual or trimestral newsletter offering updates on regional justice priorities and initiatives. Once a year, regional meetings offer an opportunity for members of local groups to come together for mutual learning and encouragement, regional planning and dialogue with national staff. The KAIROS network is made up of five geographical regions and a Quebec-based francophone partnership, the Réseau œcuménique justice et paix.

L’Arche was founded in 1964 when Jean Vanier, the son of Canadian Governor General Georges P. Vanier, welcomed two men with disabilities into his home in the town of Trosly, France, northeast of Paris. The name ‘L’Arche’ is French for ‘The Ark’, as in ‘Noah’s Ark’, the biblical symbol of deliverance, and of God’s covenant with humanity. L’Arche is now a world-wide organization welcoming people from many different faith traditions, as well as people who have no formal affiliation with any particular faith tradition. Today, there are over 120 L’Arche communities, on six continents, in 30 countries around the world.” [from the L’Arche Canada website]

[website not available in English]
